Type7 meets Wonderwall

I had the pleasure of introducing Mr. Ted, the head of Type7 and ERG media, to Masamichi Katayama of Wonderwall. For me, this was the most important mission during Ted’s visit to Japan. Ted has loved Japan for years and has been expressing interest in opening a branch here ever since we met back in June 2022.

I believe that the beginning of anything—whether it be a project or a relationship—has a proper timing. In today’s digital age, there’s often a rush to connect everything instantly, but I personally think it’s important to wait for the right moment. As the saying goes, “Haste makes waste” . Of course, there are times when you do need to act quickly…

This time, I think the timing was just right. The release of Type7 vol.5 was perfectly timed. In fact, Mr. Katayama personally ordered a copy online—which, in this era of seeding and influencer marketing, I found refreshing and impactful. As the marketing world evolves rapidly, I sense we are entering a new era beyond traditional influencer strategies.

We kicked off the Wonderwall tour. Moose looks down from above with a slightly smug gaze…

Books meticulously labeled and organized, much like a library.

The architectural model of the Wonderwall building.

Just like when we built our own shop, Katayama-san always prepares models to present his vision.

Hard not to want a photo in that space.

I also posted this on Instagram—it feels as though Ted and the polar bear are syncing up. I have a strong feeling something exciting is on the horizon. And it’s just too cute!

Katayama-san’s car, a 992.1 Turbo in Crayon—a beautiful color! While not pictured here, the studio is filled with incredible art and original furniture pieces. I truly believe Katayama-san is Japan’s top designer and someone who has greatly influenced me—a treasure trove of wisdom and creativity. Thank you as always, Katayama-san! @Satoshi Suzuki
