While currently on a hall tour and having released their new song Kaijuu on February 20, Sakanaction’s Ichiro Yamaguchi sent me news about an absolutely stunning desk— honestly, when I sat in it, I got goosebumps. This groundbreaking desk project was made possible with the cooperation and support of Tendo Mokko and the Kenmochi Design Laboratory.
Originally designed in the 1960s by Isamu Kenmochi for an international organization’s office, the Kenmochi Desk will be revived as the Revival Edition: Isamu Kenmochi Design, with only five limited pieces being produced.
From February 19 (Wed) to February 25 (Tue), an exclusive sales event titled “TENDO JAPANESE MODERN” is being held at Isetan Shinjuku, Main Building, 5th Floor, Center Park.
The YI Stool from YI yamaichi16 is also making an appearance in its black barber version.
The YI Stool comes in two types: one with a fabric seat and another with a leather seat. It will be available for limited-time pre-orders on Mitsukoshi Isetan Online from February 19 to March 18, so those living far away can place their orders there.
The so-called “Kashiwado Chair” is a revival of the chair gifted to Kashiwado, a sumo wrestler from Yamagata Prefecture, when he was promoted to Yokozuna.
If I had space, I would definitely want this masterpiece.
The so-called “Dakkou-chan Chair”—many Showa-era people might recognize this, as it resembles the famous Dakkou-chan doll.
The back view is stunning—a true example of Tendo Mokko’s craftsmanship and elegant design.
Of course, the famous Butterfly Stool is also featured.
While there are many beautiful chairs and desks from overseas, Tendo Mokko offers exceptional pieces infused with Japanese craftsmanship. There is a sense of everyday richness in these creations. Interestingly, before many Japanese people even realized it, discerning international collectors had already taken notice. Let’s not wait until it’s too late…
