Looking at the photos, you might wonder whether anything has actually changed from last year's Minakata Special — the hickory TSURIAMI jersey. But something significant has happened. Up until last year, the vertical hickory stripes were quite narrow. For about two years I had been making what felt like an unreasonable request to Minakata-san, president of Kanekichi Industries — to produce stripes as wide as those found in woven hickory fabric. At the end of last year, he finally got in touch to say it was done, and here we are. A remarkable evolution.
With the wider stripes, the fabric has gained some weight, but without losing any of its softness. Who would believe this is a TSURIAMI jersey construction? I think even an experienced craftsperson would struggle to work out how it was made. His growth as a craftsman is truly extraordinary. Something like this does not happen without a level of dedication that borders on obsession.
Available in one color — Navy Stripe — in four sizes from S to XL. The price is 65,000 yen (tax excluded). I do not think photos can do it justice, so I really hope you will come in and see it for yourself. We look forward to seeing you. @Satoshi Suzuki
